A lottery ticket purchased in Sooke has a group of 18 Greater Victoria residents spreading the wealth.
Georgena Watmough had quite the surprise for her colleagues when she learned the group of 18 people had won the $1-million prize in the July 9 Lotto 6/49 draw.
“It’s surreal,” said the Victoria resident.
After sharing the news with her friends, Watmough was excited to share the news with her kids.
“They were thrilled; they didn’t think it was real,” she said.
The group has a wealth of ideas on how to spend their winnings – which translates to $55,555 split 18 ways – with the money earmarked for things like home upgrades, helping kids with school and having the opportunity to plan things differently.
The winning ticket was purchased from the Chevron on Sooke Road and Church Road in Sooke. So far in 2025, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $46 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
