Malahat reopens in both directions after multi-vehicle collision

Drives are told to expect heavy traffic in the area

West Shore RCMP have confirmed the Malahat (Hwy. 1) is open in both directions as of 1:10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11.

Traffic came to a standstill along the southern stretch of the Malahat after a multi-vehicle crash in the late morning.

West Shore RCMP responded to the crash, which happened in the northbound lane of the Trans Canada Highway, near Finlayson Arm Road.

The highway was completely shut down in both directions, and Drive BC cameras appeared to show traffic backed up southbound at Finlayson Arm Road in Goldstream Park and northbound at the West Shore Parkway.

One Facebook user said a dump truck travelling northbound rear ended two vehicles. RCMP have not commented on the cause of the collision.

Police are telling drivers in the area to expect heavy traffic.

More to come…
