Man arrested after one injured in Saanich shopping centre brawl

Police say one individual was left with non-life-threatening injuries

One person sustained injuries and another was taken into custody following a brawl at the Royal Oak Shopping Centre.

According to a news release from Saanich Police, on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at around 7 p.m., police responded to a group of individuals fighting at the mall, and when officers arrived, they found that the altercation had already broken up, and one person involved had left the area.

"Among those who remained, one person sustained [non-life-threatening] injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. They were released a short time later. The individual who fled was located and arrested just after 11 p.m.," noted the release.

Police say the man who was arrested was held in custody overnight, and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 21. Police are recommending a charge of assault with a weapon to the Crown.
