A high-ranking member of the Vancouver Police Department is set to cross the Salish Sea to take the helm of the VicPD.

Following a national search, the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board announced on April 10 that it selected Fiona Wilson as the Victoria Police Department's next chief constable.

Wilson, who boasts 26 years of diverse, strategic and operational experience, previously served as one of three deputy chief constables with the Vancouver Police Department (VPD). Her career includes leadership roles overseeing Vancouver's Investigation Division, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement and Federal Serious and Organized Crime units.

“We are thrilled to welcome Deputy Chief Fiona Wilson as the next chief constable of VicPD,” Micayla Hayes, the chair of the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board, said in a news release. “She brings a wealth of experience, strong values and a deep commitment to public service. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and the ability to guide complex, community-focused policing initiatives."

Wilson, a mother of three, will begin her role on Aug. 15, with a two-week transition alongside Chief Del Manak prior to his retirement on Aug. 31.

“I am honoured to be selected as the next chief constable of the VicPD,” said Wilson. “I am deeply committed to serving the communities of Victoria and Esquimalt with transparency, integrity and compassion. I believe in the power of collaborative policing, grounded in service to both the public and our dedicated sworn members and civilian professionals. Together, we will continue building a safer, more inclusive and respectful environment for all.”
