The brand new pedestrian bridge will allow residents in both North Saanich and Sidney to enjoy the natural spaces beginning this fall.

Just in time for a lovely fall stroll through the park, the pedestrian bridge that crosses Reay Creek Park in North Saanich and Peter Grant Park in Sidney is now open to the public.

The construction of the new aluminum-trussed bridge started on Aug. 15 after North Saanich received permit approval from B.C. for the project.

Despite some restrictions due to wildlife requirements, the construction was carried out without major delays by the district's project tender bidder, Hoel Contracting.

The multi-span bridge is designed to have segments of approximately four metres and 18 metres that will span the 200-year high-water mark.

Two primary bridge piers are in place on either side of the stream and the trails leading to the bridge have also been paved.

"This bridge marks an important step in our ongoing partnership with the Town of Sidney and will enhance connectivity and offer a beautiful new way for residents to enjoy the natural spaces in both communities," the district said.

North Saanich acknowledges the tremendous collaboration and support from the Town of Sidney, including its financial contribution of $60,000, in completing the Reay Creek Pedestrian Link.
