The Oak Bay Police Department had a successful week after recovering stolen equipment and foiling a break and enter between Feb. 24 and March 2.
With assistance from the RCMP Marine Border Enforcement Team, on Feb. 28, officers recovered a stolen outboard engine from a sailboat moored near Esplanade and Estevan Avenue.
"The true owner of the stolen engine was surprised and pleased to hear from police," noted a news release that added the engine had disappeared almost six years ago from a property on Salt Spring Island.
Officers are making arrangements with the owner to return it according to the release.
On the evening of Feb. 28, a resident contacted police to report finding a child’s bicycle in Carnarvon Park, which was lying in the field with no one around.
Police describe the bike as a Redline Commander, single speed, with a black and blue frame. Anyone looking for the bike is asked to contact the Oak Bay Police Department.
Shortly before 2 a.m. on March 2, a resident called 911 after viewing live security camera footage of a person trying to gain entry to their home, prompting a response from patrol officers and the Integrated Canine Service.
After a "lengthy" search of the property, police found the suspect hiding in a tree, who was then arrested without injury, according to the release.
The investigation is still ongoing and the suspect, a youth under the age of 18, was returned to their family home.
