Drivers using Sooke Road at Veterans Memorial Parkway will see delays and construction now through Sept. 1 for improvements.
The City of Colwood recommends alternative routes during the day and a couple of nights as the developer of the new Speedwash site, at 2357 Sooke Rd., plans additional works near the intersection.
Upgrades include paving on Sooke Road Aug. 18 to 22 and overnight line painting scheduled for Aug. 20 and 21 between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Delays are likely from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sept. 1.
Drivers can expect delays with a single lane in each direction and limited alternating traffic when necessary.
The changes are an interim step as Colwood works toward the expansion of this portion of Sooke Road to two lanes in each direction as adjacent properties proceed with proposed developments. Over time, this area is expected to see improved traffic flow with an intersection upgrade, including sidewalks and trail connections to nearby parks and trails, the city said in a news release.
