Residents of Esquimalt are invited to learn more about volunteer opportunities in and around the township.
On Thursday, April 18, more than 25 local volunteer organizations will be at the Esquimalt Recreation Centre with the goal of recruiting volunteers and raise awareness of their work.
“This is our first year holding the event and we are thrilled to see the interest so far,” Esquimalt Mayor Barbara Desjardins said in a news release. “Volunteer groups give so much to the Esquimalt community and we wanted to provide them an opportunity to tell their stories directly with the public.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with a wide range of community groups, from Esquimalt’s Ribfest to Big Brothers Big Sisters Victoria.
“Common reasons for volunteering include making a difference in the lives of others; gaining valuable skills and experiences; meeting like-minded individuals; and being part of something bigger than oneself,” noted the release.
The free event runs from 3 to 7 p.m. on April 18 at the Jubilee Hall in the recreation centre.
