John Hermsen won the $675,000 Set for Life top prize.

A Saanichton resident is $675,000 richer after winning the Set for Life top prize.

“I checked my ticket on the self-scanner at the retailer, and then gave it to the retailer to check,” said winner John Hermsen in a news release. “I went home right after I won to tell my girlfriend. I told her, ‘We’re set for life!’”

Hermsen purchased the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven on Mount Newton Cross Road.

With his winnings, Hermsen says he plans to buy a new boat and truck, and he hopes to travel to Belize or Fiji.

“It’s surreal. This win will make things more comfortable," he noted

So far in 2025, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $7 million in Set for Life prizes according to BCLC.
