John Sutton got a shock on Thursday after he checked his Lotto 6/49 Extra ticket.

“I couldn’t believe all of the zeroes,” Sutton told the British Columbia Lottery Association (BCLC). “I gave my ticket to the store manager and their computer froze.”

The Sidney resident won a whopping $500,000 from the ticket he purchased at the Save-On-Foods on Beacon Avenue.

Immediately, Sutton called his kids with the life-altering news.

“She almost fainted,” said Sutton of his daughter's reaction. “I then showed my son, and he was very excited as well.”

Prior to his big win, Sutton had a trip booked to Hawaii. He plans to extend his holiday.

This is the second lottery winner in Sidney this month.

So far in 2024, B.C. lottery players have redeemed over $33 million in winnings from the Extra and more than $122 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
