"I just didn’t believe it," says Jean Orestil.

When Victoria couple Jean Orestil and Rose-Marie Orestil-Casseus popped into a gas station to check their Lotto 6/49 ticket, they had no idea the short stop would be the start of their retirement.

Ticket in hand, Jean walked up to the station's front counter, then checked his numbers against those drawn on March 26. That's when the couple received the life-changing news that they would be going home with a whopping $1 million.

“I was stunned," said Jean, who passed the ticket to the station attendant to check. "I just didn’t believe it."

And neither could Rose-Marie

"I was shocked," she said.

Jean has been driving taxis in Canada for 40 years, but the payout means he's giving up his life in the driver's seat. The couple plan to buy a property and retire, but not before helping their family.

“We have grand kids," said Rose-Marie. "We’ll make them happy."
