A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured after being hit by an SUV in a marked crosswalk on Monday (Feb. 26) morning.

The driver of the dark green vehicle was travelling east on Cedar Hill Cross Road and turned left onto Blenkinsop Road around 8:20 a.m., where police said the SUV struck the teen while she was in the crosswalk.

The 17-year-old suffered serious injuries to one of her legs as a result of the incident.

A brief statement released by Saanich police around 3:30 p.m. didn’t describe the incident as a hit-and-run, but said the department’s Traffic Safety Unit was working to identify the driver.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has footage of it is asked to call police at 250-475-4321.

Asked if the incident was a hit-and-run, Saanich police said in an emailed statement the Traffic Safety Unit is in the early stages of its investigation and is collecting all available data, evidence and witness statements.
