Three sections of sidewalk in downtown Victoria were behind police tape as officers investigated a stabbing Monday morning.
One person was taken to hospital for treatment after police were called to area of Douglas and Yates streets for reports of a stabbing on April 15 just before 10:30 a.m., VicPD said.
Police said officers were on proactive patrol in the area when they were flagged down to the incident in the 600-block of Yates.
After receiving first aid, one man was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Police said there were no other victims.
There have been no arrests.
Road traffic was not impacted, but sidewalk sections outside businesses in the area near Douglas and Yates streets were taped off for about two hours for investigation.
The same area, 1200-block of Douglas, was the site of a midday stabbing March 19. One person was taken to hospital in that incident and officers did not make any arrests at the scene, or reported any since.
VicPD says this was the seventh stabbing since March 1, with two of those as suspected homicides. But police say they are each considered isolated incidents.
“Although the number and close frequency of recent stabbing events is concerning, it is not significantly higher than most other years,” VicPD said in a news release.
Department statistics show 20 assaults involving a knife in the first quarter of 2024, compared to 13 in the first quarter of 2023 and 16 in 2022.
