University of Victoria student Alaya Conway has been awarded a $5,000 bursary from the Telus Friendly Future Foundation, recognizing her commitment to health advocacy and inclusivity for invisible disabilities.
The bursary, launched in 2023, supports students facing financial need who make positive impacts in their communities.
Conway's commitment is fuelled by her daily challenges with ADHD and dyslexia, along with witnessing her mother's struggle with a chronic illness. These experiences have inspired her passion for raising awareness and reducing stigmas around invisible disabilities.
The young student plans to use the funding to further her education and advocate for health accessibility.
The Telus Friendly Future Foundation’s bursary program is the largest of its kind in Canada, with a $50-million fund supporting students across the country. By the end of 2024, the fund will have provided financial support to nearly 1,000 post-secondary students nationwide.
