Warning: This story details allegations of sexual harassment and assault

The Victoria Police Department confirmed they are investigating Zuma Martial Arts on Blanshard Street following multiple social media accusations made against the owner of the business for sexually harassing women.

In early July, multiple posts surfaced on social media claiming the owner had made explicit sexual comments about gym goer's bodies, appearances, and personal lives, did unwanted sexual touching during training, made sexual propositions – including requests for nude photoshoots – and sexualized underage girls in the gym.

"This is not simply 'inappropriate.' This is a serious abuse of power and trust that has traumatized women and driven them away from a sport they loved," noted the first woman to post about him on Reddit. She says since her post, 12 other woman have come forward about their experiences with him.

In an emailed statement, VicPD said they are unable to comment on the ongoing investigation, however they encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward.

On July 21, the "Zuma leadership team" said in an Instagram post they have commissioned a third-party to examine their culture, structure and concerns brought forward. They also say they are forming an advisory panel to "co-design the future of Zuma," including their new code of conduct and leadership accountability structures.

"Even when details are complex or perspectives differ, we believe one thing above all: every person deserves to feel safe and respected when they walk into our gym," noted the post.
