Indoor pickleball, one of Canada’s fastest-growing sports, will debut temporarily at Crystal Garden, according to a statement from the City of Victoria.
Crystal Garden will temporarily host two indoor pickleball courts from Jan. 9 to Feb. 18, 2024.
The popularity of pickleball has exploded over the last few years, and the pop-up installation will offer the community a chance to get involved.
“Victoria Regional Pickleball Association is applauding the introduction of the fastest-growing sport in Canada in the iconic Crystal Garden,” said Connie McCann, Victoria Regional Pickleball Association president. “Pickleball in Beacon Hill Park has been a resounding success and we expect local and visiting players will embrace playing in the Crystal Garden as well.”
Pickleball is a racket sport played by two to four players with a perforated plastic ball. The objective is to hit the ball over a 34-inch-high net with paddles until one side fails to return the ball or commits an infraction. Pickleball is played indoors or outdoors.
This pop-up event is directly aligned with the city’s strategic plan priority to enhance amenities for recreational, youth and professional sports.
The pickleball courts will be available for drop-in times, court reservations, and registered programs. Program information will be online on Dec. 12. Registration opens on Dec. 14 at noon.
