The beach advisory cautioning residents against plunging into the water at Willows Beach last week has been lifted.

On the morning of Aug. 11, Island Health issued a no-swimming advisory for unsatisfactory bacteriological water-test results at the popular summer spot.

These tests showed Enterococci levels – a bacteriological indicator of fecal contamination – had been high at the Oak Bay beach since Aug. 6.

“High levels of bacteria in the water ... may pose a risk to health,” the district said on its website. “The area is unsafe for swimming and other water contact activities until further notice.”'

This news comes as Saxe Point Park Beach, Esquimalt Gorge Park's Kinsmen Beach and Langford Lake at Ed Nixon Lane were placed under a beach advisory by Island Health Aug. 15. due to unsatisfactory bacteriological water results. Sayward Beach in Cordova Bay was also added to the list Aug.14.

There are currently nine Greater Victoria beach advisories in place, with Beaver Lake, Thetis Lake Beach, Prior Lake and Ross Bay Beach on the list.
