A dominating hitter and a fierce pitcher from the Victoria HarbourCats were selected for the West Coast League (WCL) All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 17.
Second baseman/outfielder Tate Shimao and pitcher Carson Cormier will be travelling to Bellingham, WA this week for the league's first all-star game since 2019.
"We are pleased and proud. We could have six or seven more players selected," HarbourCats general manager Christian J. Stewart said.
In 17 games with the HarbourCats, Shimao is hitting .373 (25/67) with four doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 20 RBIs.
Shiamo, who is from Hawaii, started playing baseball at three or four years old and is looking forward to travelling with his teammate for the game. He is also looking forward to playing against his friend Freddie Rodrigues, also of Haiwaii, who played with him while he was at college.
"It is cool we are both going to be there," he said.
Cormier, a member of Texas Christian University (TCU) is sporting a 2.61 ERA in 10.1 innings over eight appearances, striking out 19 batters.
The game will be played at Joe Martin Field, hosted by the Bellingham Bells.
"After a long hiatus, we're thrilled to bring back the All-Star Game and celebrate the incredible talent in our league," WCL Commissioner Rob Neyer said. "It's already apparent that the Bells will present a tremendous event for our fans, our players and for our many thousands watching the game around the world."
The North Division will coached by Bellingham's Bob Ralston, while the South Division is led by Brooke Knight the Corvallis Knights.
"Anyone travelling to Bellingham will see some very good baseball," Stewart said.
The WCL all-star game will take place on Wednesday, July 17 at 6:35 p.m.
