The National Mountain Bike Championship will be returning to the West Coast after two years of being held in Eastern Canada and the City of Langford announced it will play host to a number of the championship events at the Jordie Lunn Bike Park.
From July 18 to 20, 2025, Langford residents and visitors will have the opportunity to witness cross-country and short-track racers from across the country competing for the championship title at the bike park.
“It is an honour for the City of Langford to host such a prestigious event and I’m grateful to our partners for showcasing Langford as a preferred sports destination on the national stage. We’re all set to welcome the cycling community from across Canada for an unforgettable experience in Langford” said Langford Mayor Scott Goodmanson in a news release.
Building up to the national championships, the Langford Bikefest is also gearing up for a third annual event at the Jordie Lunn Bike Park. Biking enthusiasts are invited to sign up for the event, which will be held on Sept. 7 and 8, and to explore the trails that will host national championship contenders the following year.
“Council is thrilled to see the return of the Langford Bikefest to the Jordie Lunn Bike Park, providing yet another opportunity to foster the spirit of community, as residents and visitors enjoy watching riders compete at Langford’s state-of-the-art facility," said Goodmanson in the release.
On Saturday, Sept. 7, racers can participate in the Broad Street Cycles Short Track at the Langford Gravity Zone and Nature Trails where participants in each category race on a short course (under two kilometres) within 25 minutes, making it "intense, fast-paced, and enjoyable for participants and spectators."
On Sept. 8, racers can participate in the Rhino Coffee Super XC which combines cross-country racing with the high speeds and technical downhills of Enduro racing, however, unlike Enduro, racers are timed for the entire race, making it crucial to choose the right bike for both climbing and technical descent.
Both events will take place at Jordie Lunn Bike Park and the Gravity Zone and Nature Trails Park. Throughout the year, the park hosts several events with the Langford Bikefest drawing close to 500 participants and more than 1,000 spectators annually.
