Langford gives hero's welcome to its historic Olympic rugby 7s medallists

Canada won the silver medal at the Paris games in July, the best-ever performance in the sport

Fresh from making history at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, players from Canada's women's rugby sevens team were given a hero's welcome by the City of Langford.

Returning to the 'home of rugby' at Canada's national training centre in Langford, players Krissy Scurfield, Carissa Norsten and Shalaya Valenzuela, met with Mayor Scott Goodmanson and a number of other councillors on Sept. 13 at the Starlight Stadium, to celebrate their achievements.

The three women and their teammates recorded the best-ever Olympic performance for Canada in rugby sevens, winning the silver medal.

"It was a memorable opportunity to meet the Olympic champions upon their return from Paris," said Goodmanson, who posed for photos wearing an Olympic silver medal.

"Langford is honoured to be the home training ground for Rugby Canada. We are grateful to partners such as Rugby Canada for showcasing Langford as a premier sports destination on the international stage, igniting a sense of pride and aspiration within our community, and inspiring local youth to chase their athletic dreams. We are so proud of the women’s team and everything they have accomplished."
