PHOTOS: 4 UVic women’s rugby players named Canada West All-Stars

The players were also selected to regional ‘Dream Teams’ in Vancouver, Langley and Edmonton

Four players on the University of Victoria’s women’s rugby sevens team have been recognized for their strong season, as they were named Canada West All-Stars.

Larah Wright, Maggie MacKinnon, and Lucie Romeo were named to the conference’s first team, whileShane Ogurek was tabbed for the second team.

The Vikes had the second most team selections, behind UBC’s five.

Wright’s 11 tries led the Vikes and marked the second-most in the conference during the season, which resulted in 55 points, fifth most in the league. She earned nods to both the Vancouver sevens and Langley sevens Dream Teams.

MacKinnon led the conference in scoring with 111 points during the 2024 sevens campaign. Her 33 conversions in 14 matches was the most in Canada, while her nine tries tied her for second-most on the Vikes. Heading to Edmonton, MacKinnon has been selected to play on the sevens Dream Team.

Romeo tied with MacKinnon for the second-most tries on the team. She also had one convert, for a total of 47 points during the 2024 season. She’ll be joining her counterpart on Edmonton’s sevens Dream Team.

Ogurek scored four tries during the season and was selected to the Langley 7s Dream Team.

The Vikes will close the 2024 sevens season at the Canadian University Rugby sevens Championships from March 17 to 18 at Concordia University.
