Texas-native Todd Haney, who has been the HarbourCats' head coach since 2019, has agreed to extend his contract by five years.

Victoria HarbourCats head coach Todd Haney, who has led the team to the West Coast League finals twice in just four years, will remain in his position for the next five seasons.

“Success is in the details. Every day you come to the baseball field is a day that you can improve. Focus on specifics, focus on what’s going to help you become a better baseball player and then take pride and passion in doing that daily,” said Haney. “There’s no substitute for hard work.”

Haney, who took over as head coach in 2019, came to Victoria with four years of Major League experience.

The Texas native began his professional career in 1987, when he was selected to play for the Mariners – the same year now hall-of-famer Ken Griffey Jr. joined the Seattle outfit. Later, Haney went to bat for the Chicago Cubs, the New York Mets and the Montreal Expos.

The coach also led a baseball development program in Waco, Texas.

“Learning from some of the best coaches and best players has certainly impacted the teaching that I bring,” he said.

Next year, Haney will stick to what he does best.

"Nothing will change,” he said. “I approach every season the same: with an expectation to win the West Coast League Championship.”

Under Haney’s leadership, the team has reached the WCL playoffs four times, in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024. The HarbourCats also lead the WCL in home runs (127), hits (2,096), stolen bases (610) and total bases (2,895).

The coach is looking forward to whatever the next season throws at him.

“Every year is a new and exciting challenge,” he said. “We love teaching, we love helping players reach their potential, we love helping players go back to college baseball and excel and must have a great experience while they’re with us."

The team plans to welcome a new roster of players in 2025.
