Victoria area motorists can expect to encounter detours and delays next week as construction work takes place along McKenzie Avenue and Highway 1.

Between June 12 and 16, travellers are advised of overnight closures, detours and delays as part of the McKenzie interchange construction. The closures will allow crews to install the Galloping Goose Trail bridge over McKenzie Avenue and the temporary pedestrian/cyclist bridge over Highway 1.

From 11 p.m. Monday until 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, McKenzie Avenue will be closed between Burnside Road W and Highway 1.

From 11 p.m. Tuesday until 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, McKenzie Avenue will be closed between Burnside Road W and Highway 1.

On Friday between midnight an 5:30 a.m. Highway 1 will be closed between McKenzie Avenue/Admirals Road and the Helmcken interchange.

Every effort will be made to open these routes as quickly as possible, as soon as it is safe for both the construction crews and the travelling public. The work schedule may change due to weather and other conditions.

All travellers including drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are advised to plan alternative routes and to allow for extra time. Please also obey traffic control personnel and construction speed limits, and watch for workers and highway message boards. For up-to-date traffic advisories, visit: http://www.drivebc.ca/.
