Additional shelter spaces have been activated for those experiencing homelessness in Victoria, with cold weather in the forecast.
An extreme weather alert was issued for the region on Monday, with temperatures expected to be near or below freezing overnight.
There will be 30 spaces available at the Salvation Army Addictions and Rehabilitation Centre in Victoria. The site’s additional spaces will be available from 8:30 p.m. on Monday to 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Soup will be served until 10 p.m., or until it runs out, and pets and shopping carts are not permitted.
Five mats will be available at the Sooke Shelter (6750 West Coast Rd.) from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Pets and shopping carts are permitted at the site and meals and snacks will be provided.
