While the owners of Crossroads Brewing in Prince George are saddened, they're thankful for the community support after their establishment was destroyed in a fire early Friday morning.
The fire was called in around 3 a.m. Sept. 5. Officers have stepped in to help Prince George Fire Rescue Services extinguish the fire at 508 George St. in Prince George's downtown core.
"We are devastated," owners Daryl Leiski and Cindy Zurowski on the brewery's Facebook page said. "While the building suffered significant damage, we are relieved to hear that everyone is safe and that nobody was injured."
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time but the City of Prince George confirmed on Friday afternoon that the blaze is fully extinguished.
Leiski and Zurowski thanked the fire department and first responders for their efforts in the post, and felt the love from the community who are also devastated.
"We greatly appreciate everyone’s positive comments on social media," the post continued. "The support from fellow breweries has been swift and overwhelming, with offers to assist in production and packaging. Our community’s response has been incredible, and we are humbled by your kind words and offers of support."
They noted the brewery has been their passion for the last eight years.
"It has been more than just a business to us — it is part of our connection to the Prince George community," they said. Downtown Prince George is where we flourished and grew, and we plan on continuing to do so. We hope to resume production as soon as possible with the assistance of our fellow breweries."
Prince George RCMP are investigating the fire.
"Currently we are looking to see if anyone in the neighbourhood has any video surveillance, cell phone video or dash camera video that would have captured movement outside the business or give any indication as to how or where the fire started," Prince George media relations officer Const. Jenna Moore said. "Any information to help advance this investigation would be appreciated."
Crossroads Brewing was set to host a summer street festival on Saturday, Sept. 6.
"Our story has not ended," Leiski and Zurowski said.
