A commuting driver nearly ended up in Elk Lake on Tuesday morning when they were forced off the Patricia Bay Highway by a cement mixing truck.
The incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. when a cement mixer truck, traveling south, changed lanes, said Saanich Police Sgt. Jereme Leslie.
“The [truck] driver didn’t observe the vehicle in its blind spot and hit it, sending it off road down a steep embankment where it came to a stop,” Leslie said.
An earlier report indicated the car ended up on the walking path that runs along the lakefront parallel to the highway. The path is a popular for walkers, runners and anglers too.
Saanich Police, Saanich Fire and ambulances responded to the call.
The driver of the car was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the driver of large truck issued a ticket under the MVA.
Southbound traffic was delayed.
