A nine-year-old Yorkshire terrier mix is on the mend after being surrendered to the BC SPCA following an animal protection investigation in West Kelowna.
Tessa was surrendered this past July, after she was found living in poor conditions with several other animals.
“Tessa had at least five litters. A vet exam revealed she had broken and missing teeth, skin issues, fecal matter on her coat and luxating patellas,” said Eileen Drever, senior officer, protection and stakeholder relations. “She was severely under-socialized and visibly fearful.”
The senior dog was spayed and received dental care for her broken teeth. BC SPCA South Okanagan/Similkameen Manager Brittney Vazorka said it wasn't long before the fear subsided, and, "She soon became the cuddliest lap dog."
Tessa was on the road to recovery when she became sick again and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. After several rounds of treatment and a stay at the emergency hospital, Tessa is now recovering at home with her foster.
Once Tessa has fully recuperated, she will be available for adoption.
