An alert driver helped Victoria police nab a wanted man considered dangerous.
A province-wide warrant was issued for Shane Michael Wilson stemming from a Jan. 18 assault in North Park. Wilson allegedly hit a man, Const. Mike Russell said, noting the men knew each other before the incident.
On Wednesday, Feb. 16, police went public for help locating Wilson after "exhausting every other investigative measure" to find him, Russell said.
On Friday, Wilson was spotted in a vehicle by another motorist who recognized the 27-year-old professional MMA fighter as the man wanted by police.
Victoria police arrested Wilson in the 1400 block of Douglas Street at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
"The public was instrumental in getting him in custody," Det. Shawn Robson said. "We received tons of good tips concerning his whereabouts and were able to make a timely arrest."
Wilson, who has a criminal history of violence, appeared in court later Friday. He is charged with assault causing bodily harm.
