Sooke RCMP say investigators have arrested a 28-year-old woman they believe to be connected to two suspicious fires.
On Tuesday, Sooke Mounties and firefighters were called to two brush fires that they say appeared to have been deliberately set along the Galloping Goose Trail, west of Sooke River Road.
The first involved a brush fire, covering an area measuring 2.5x2.5 metres. The second fire had engulfed a tree, with flames reaching a height of 7.5 metres.

Later that day, a 28-year-old woman, with no fixed address, was located and arrested.
“I take pride in the combined efforts of the District of Sooke’s Community Safety Team and express gratitude to the public for their assistance in providing us with valuable information,” said Sooke RCMP Sgt. Kevin Shaw.
Anyone who was in the vicinity of the Sooke Potholes, Sooke River Road, or the Galloping Goose Trail between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. on May 30, 2023, and observed any suspicious activities, is urged to contact the Sooke RCMP at 250-642-5241.
