Central Saanich should not change our OCP to allow for the Hovey Road development. We do not need more expensive rentals that no one can afford.
Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist have literally thousands of available rental listings. It's not a shortage of rental units, it is a case of rent being too high. We cannot trade off a minuscule addition to affordability in exchange for a huge addition of unaffordable rental units that become cash cows for investors and strain our infrastructure.
Marigold Lands project is morphing into a very high-density grouping of rental buildings that was never envisioned for this property. The two new buildings are not even full, and yet there are even more in the development stage. There has been zero progress at 1932 Mt Newton Cross Rd. in two-plus years. We need a better plan for Central Saanich, not just more of the same that helps nobody but developers and investors.
