There are two significant errors in the article 'Developers set to host meeting on revised Saanichton housing project'. The development does not “fully comply” with the official community plan (OCP). Regardless of the entrance or the height of the building, this area is zoned Residential. The proposed development would be Multi-unit. This means high density.
The developer must request a significant change to the OCP. This is a quiet residential street ending in farmland. The developer would demolish five homes on one side of the street to construct these two buildings.
The second error in the article is that the rental building is “for the local workforce”. Unless there was a specific agreement with an organization to provide this, it is illegal to discriminate in housing.
In fact, it is interesting to note that in this article, there is no claim that it will be housing for hospital workers. That has been the claim by the developer, and repeated by this paper in every article. Then the Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Healthcare Foundation issued a very clear statement that they were not involved with this development in any way. Suddenly that claim is not repeated. What else about this development has been claimed that may not be true?
