I’d like to add one important fact about leashing dogs on beaches: Most sea and migrating birds feed at the tide line. If they miss a feeding, they go hungry for six hours (or at times 12 hours on this side of the Island). Birds’ migration survival is often a matter of grams of food.
As a dog owner, my philosophy is to err on the side of species that are more threatened than dogs. Therefore we avoid or leash up in bio-diverse areas. Lily and I have lots of fun and exercise without endangering precious wildlife.
I support the People, Pets and Parks proposed strategy to leash dogs on beaches and in natural area parks.
