I read Mike Scholefield of Central Saanich’s comments in his letter to the Peninsula News Review on the pickleball courts.
I would like him to provide me with a data point. If data was collected in the past as to the demographics of users of the Wain Road courts – which is a North Saanich taxpayer asset – what percentage of users are North Saanich residents?
Why should I, as a resident of North Saanich, be expected to see my tax dollars spent to make things available to residents of other communities? Maybe he should ask his local government to build courts in Central Saanich?
That said, I suspect North Saanich council, having dropped the ball, is now trying to save face. Noise mitigating technology and restriction of hours – including fencing if necessary to get compliance – seems to me to be a reasonable compromise.
