Conservation, connection and community are at the heart of an Earth Day event set for April 26 at Oak Haven Park.
Habitat Acquisition Trust (HAT), Friends of Oak Haven Park, and the District of Central Saanich are joining forces to host a free wildflower tour, followed by an initiative to remove invasive plant species.
Plant expert Justin Dunning will lead a guided spring wildflower tour at 10 a.m. Participants will explore the park's diverse flora and learn about the unique species thriving in the area.
Following the tour, volunteers will roll up their sleeves and remove invasive plant species threatening the rare and endangered Garry oak ecosystem.
The event aims to foster a deeper connection between participants, the land, and its inhabitants, providing a direct way to be involved in preserving the park's natural beauty.
All are welcome to join the celebration. Volunteers are asked to meet at the intersection of Benvenuto Avenue and the District of Central Saanich trails.
There is a small parking lot on Benvenuto Avenue, with additional street parking on Garden Gate Drive.
HAT and Central Saanich will provide refreshments, tools and training.
