Well, it is done. And if you watched (or attended) the third public hearing for the Roundhouse at Bayview Place Jan. 25, you will know that there is something deep at play here, of which the public is unaware.
Council asked great questions and the developer’s team gave extremely weak and uninformative answers. City staff gave many responses that would have shut this down in any reasonable human’s mind. It was quite evident that Focus Equities will sell off parcels of land so there may be no cohesiveness to the project and it appears that hotels may be quite imminent.
This was a done deal, long before the public hearings started, in my opinion, and my distaste and disdain for politicians has once again been verified. Those of us who are not in favour of the rezoning (the original proposal would have been perfect if not for the greed) tried and failed, but trying was important because it’s all we can do. And, there is still hope that the “vision” remains.
It would be sad to see our quaint oceanside paradise turned into a Vancouver wannabe with all the infrastructure issues that brings!
