LETTER: Spread the word about Saanich's AAP

Deadline to voice opposition to borrowing $150 million for Saanich Operations Centre is June 25

The district’s director of engineering Harley Machielse fields questions from members of Save Our Saanich – a group of residents opposed to the AAP.

Many are volunteering to spread the word for the "No" vote for Saanich regarding the alternative approval process (AAP).  I became involved at the beginning because I cannot support a process that denies the needed information and a voice for all.

I have gone to the Saanich Municipal Hall to get 10 elector response forms every day since the process started on May 21. The limit on these forms does curtail canvassing of streets, signatures in coffee shops, etc. I am most grateful to be able to print extra forms and go to Staples for extra printing needs.

On June 11, I came home to find an envelope in my mailbox. I opened it and it was a $100 gift card for gas and a thank you card that read, "From Your Friends at Saanich."  I was so humbled by such a kind and generous gift. I can assure you that I and all the volunteers expect no such gifts.  Your signature and those of family and friends represent the care and voice for all, and that is the only gift we need.

Please visit the website of: SaveourSaanich.com for information, downloading of forms and all that is needed to forward legible, emailed scanned copies to Saanich. Make sure you have filled out your form correctly as Saanich will reject any form that is incomplete, and no electronic signatures are allowed.  Please spread the word as we need 9,000 signatures by June 25.
