March madness has arrived in Oak Bay.
The island high school 4A senior boys basketball tournament began Feb. 21 at Oak Bay Secondary School.
With spots for the the 2018-2019 provincial tournament on the line, the playoffs are a make it or break it opportunity for the schools that qualified. The tournament is single knockout, meaning an early loss would shatter any title dreams. The first place team gets a guaranteed spot. The team placing second can be challenged by the third place winners if the two teams haven’t met previously in the tournament.
Oak Bay High School faced off against Spectrum Community School to start the tournament, winning 114-55. Oak Bay’s second-round matchup will be 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 against either Dover Bay Secondary School or Claremont Secondary School. If Oak Bay wins the title again this year it will be their fifth consecutive championship.
The complete schedule is pictured below, and all games will be played at Oak Bay High School.
