Men’s fastball tournament, old-timers game coming to MacDonald Park this weekend

Six teams from the MacDonald Park League will be participating

The Victoria Athletic Association will be teaming up with the MacDonald Park Men’s Fastball League to add an old-timers game to the annual Doug Smithson Memorial Tournament this year.

Six teams from the MacDonald Park League will be participating, as well as three teams from Nanaimo. The old-timers rosters will be made of players from across B.C. and Washington State, ranging in age from 40 to 60, and players are encouraged to wear their old jerseys.

“Some of the jerseys will be stretched pretty tight,” coordinator Ian Flinch joked.

This will be the third year that the old-timers have played during the tournament.

The tournament will take place at MacDonald Park in James Bay from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The old-timers game will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Attendance is free and a beer garden and barbecue will be on location.
