Parksville swimmer Bennett sets national record in 100-metre butterfly

Parksville's Nicholas Bennett sets a new mark in the 100-metre butterfly at the Canadian Swimming Trials at the Saanich Commonwealth Pool in Victoria.

Parksville S14 para swimmer Nicholas Bennett made a big splash when he set a new national mark at the Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria on Wednesday, June 11.

Swimming in the 100-metre butterfly, Bennett broke his own Canadian class record, finishing with a time of 57.50.

The former member of the Qualicum Beach Ravensong Breakers and now trains with the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club in Alberta, earned a silver medal in the multi-class 100 butterfly event. 

The Canadian Paralympian who won two gold medals and silver at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, will be eligible to compete for Team Canada in the 100 butterfly at the Para World Championships that will take place in Singapore Sept. 21 to Sept. 27.
