Mount Douglas’ star middle distance runner, Katelyn Hayward, chopped 4.5 seconds off her Island record of five minutes, three seconds (set two weeks ago) to record a new B.C. record in the 1,500m steeplechase, 4:58.85, at the B.C. high school track and field championships on June 4.
Hayward also won the 3,000m.
Mt. Doug got a surprise effort from their men’s 4x400 relay team with a bronze medal.
The win by Thomas Getty, Tanner Milne, Derek Morgan and Tyler Norman is a continuation of recent success by Mt. Doug in the men’s relay races, one that’s benefited from the football team’s fleet-footed running backs and wide receivers.
