Alec Dillon is in pretty good company this week in Calgary.
The Victoria Grizzlies goaltender is the lone junior A player on a list of 10 under-20 goalies working out with top-level coaches at the annual Hockey Canada Program of Excellence camp.
The goalies, nine of whom play at the major junior level, are candidates for the national junior team that will compete in the 2015 world championships in December and January in Toronto and Montreal.
Dillon helped the Grizzlies reach the B.C. Hockey League semifinals this past season and is considered a sure bet to be selected in the National Hockey League amateur draft later this month.
He’s rated 13th among North American goalies in the NHL’s prospect rankings, which is third highest among the undrafted U-20 camp invitees.
The camp, which also has U-18 and U-17 national team hopefuls, began Thursday and runs through Sunday at Canada Olympic Park. The instructors list features a variety of retired NHLers and others including the Victoria Royals’ Brady Robinson.
