The osprey have arrived.

Back for the spring season osprey in the Okanagan are preparing for their new family and FortisBC is catching it all live.

Located near Benvoulin Road in Kelowna, an osprey nest is being live streamed by FortisBC.

The FortisBC Osprey nest management program has been implemented to protect these birds by actively discouraging nest building on energized power poles, and removing them from live poles to pre-constructed nesting platforms installed nearby.

When osprey nest on live power poles they can cause power outages due to nest debris falling on power lines; or cause fires if nest debris falls onto power lines possibly causing injury or death to ospreys and or even to humans.

To date more than 40 poles have been installed throughout the FortisBC service territory.

The birds can be seen throughout the summer going about their day-to-day business until the fall when they will leave for the winter.
