Longtime Parksville chiropractor-turned-author Dr. Larry Smith has released his new memoir, Johnnie and Me: Facing the Voice of Alcohol Within.
Part memoir and part recovery narrative, Johnnie and Me offers a personal and introspective look at addiction, identity and healing, according to a news release.
Drawing on his own lived experience, Smith personifies addiction as a voice — “Johnnie” — and takes readers inside the emotional and spiritual battle that defines recovery.
“This is a book about facing the voice that tells us we’re not enough,” said Smith. “For me, that voice had a name—Johnnie.”
After serving the mid-Island community for over 36 years as a chiropractor, Smith turned his focus toward writing.
His previous works include Embracing the Journey of Recovery and Inside the Minds: The Art and Science of Sports Medicine. With Johnnie and Me, he offers his own blend of honesty, humour and insight to the often-misunderstood world of addiction recovery.
The book will be available locally at The Mulberry Bush Bookstore in Qualicum Beach, as well as throughat Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and directly through the author’s website at www.drlarrysmithauthor.com.
As part of his ongoing commitment to community service, Smith plans to give away signed copies to local individuals and organizations involved in recovery, health care and education.
Johnnie and Me is published by Morgan James Publishing in New York.
