Dogs are beloved companions in many Canadian homes. 

According to some statistics, around two in five households in the country have a dog, with close to eight million dogs in the country. 

Dogs are the domesticated descendants of the wolf, but many of these furry companions are not too interested in their wolf ancestors, preferring instead to be with their human companions. 

In history and in popular culture, dogs have been featured prominently.
