The Avenue Gallery: Philip Mix, Jo Ludwig, Lorna Dockstader | August | 2184 Oak Bay Ave.
The Avenue Gallery welcomes back Philip Mix and his luminous landscape paintings, exploring the dynamic passage of time with movement and transformation.
Born in Edmonton, Philip Mix earned a BA in painting from the Alberta College of Art in Calgary and has since been exhibited internationally. For 25 years, he operated a conservation studio in Victoria and was an active member of the Pacific Conservation Group and Canadian Conservation Associates. Now retired from art conservation, Mix lives in a small community on Vancouver Island, where he devotes his time to his studio practice, his family, and the ongoing challenge of taming an uncooperative garden.
Jo Ludwig's mesmerizing ToBs ('Things of Beauty') are crafted through a meticulous fusing and slumping process that transforms glass into dazzling works of art. From the iridescent dichroic top layer to the carefully crafted base, each piece radiates a unique blend of technique and creative expression.
Lastly, Lorna Dockstader is an Edmonton-born, Calgary-based visual artist. Themes of purity and solitude are ever-present in her paintings of Western Canadian landscapes. To achieve her desired result, Dockstader subtracts non-essentials while using elegant colours and neutrals.
In 2002, Lorna received Senior Signature status from The Federation of Canadian Artists.

Madrona Gallery: Luke Ramsey: In It | Aug. 23 - Sept. 6 | 606 View St.
Opening Reception: Aug. 23, 1-3 p.m.
Local artist Luke Ramsey presents In It, a new exhibition that blends landscape, abstraction, and whimsical animal forms. Ramsey’s work invites viewers into imagined worlds where the natural meets the surreal – spaces shaped by quiet cosmic energy and earthly wonder.
The exhibit plays with the tension between clarity and ambiguity, using both form and absence to explore perception. This show asks us to consider the in-between: the line between confidence and doubt, presence and departure, language and silence.
