Teens showcase robotics designed, built and programmed by them, on a display for the community Saturday in Victoria.
Esquimalt High School Proton Pulverizers FIRST Robotics Team hosts a day of robotics, fun and food, sponsored by the Victoria-Saanich Rotary Club to support a trip to Edmonton where the students will compete.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the community to learn more about the evolution of high school science instruction as well as the impact of the Victoria area Rotary Clubs, that includes secondary and post secondary scholarships, international exchange opportunities, leadership and service opportunities and more,” coach and Rotarian Brandon Baker said.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a global nonprofit organization that prepares young people for the future through a suite of inclusive, team-based robotics programs for ages four to 18. Starting with a kit, teams of students design, program and build industrial-sized robots to compete on a themed field as part of a three-team alliance.
Esquimalt High School Proton Pulverizers is a team among several high school groups in the region who compete.
The public can see them in action on July 26 at Norway House, 1110 Hillside Ave. in Victoria from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
