The UVic Vikes men’s rugby team finished a perfect weekend Oct. 29 with a 72-0 thrashing of the UBC Okanagan Heat – a win that secures the second berth from Western Canada for the University National Championships in Guelph, Ont. Nov. 16 to 19.
This week, the team returns to UVic’s Wallace Field Saturday, Nov. 4 for a 2:30 p.m. tilt with Oak Bay’s Castaway Wanderers.
Head to the field for 12:45 p.m. when the UVic and CW Premier Reserve teams hit the pitch.
The Vikes men’s field hockey team is also in town this weekend, hosting the University of British Columbia Sunday, Nov. 5 at 12:30 p.m.
As Vikes swimmers gear up for the Canada West Championship later this month, they’ll first make a splash at the Island Cup Invitational, Friday, Nov. 10 to Sunday, Nov. 12 at Commonwealth Pool.
In high school sports, senior boys’ volleyball playoffs get underway next week, with the schedule still being determined at press time. Stay up to date at lowerislandschoolsports.ca. Looking ahead, Oak Bay High hosts the AAA Island Championship Nov. 17 and 18.
In senior girls’ volleyball, the 4A South Island playoffs hit the court Tuesday, Nov. 7 at a venue still being determined at press time. In a series of games opening at 5 p.m., Oak Bay will compete with Belmont, Claremont, Reynolds, Spectrum and Mt. Doug.
Head to Elk Lake this weekend, Nov. 4 and 5, to cheer on Oak Bay rowers competing with others from across the region at the City Championships.
In community rugby, head to Windsor Park Saturday, Nov. 4, when the Women’s Premier League Castaway Wanderers take on Capilano on at 12:45 p.m.
Oak Bay men’s soccer has the Bays United Div. 1 team hosting Comox Valley United at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4. Come cheer on the local team at the Oak Bay High field.
Finishing the week on Friday, Nov. 10, the UVic Alumni team hosts Peninsula at 7 p.m. at UVic.
The Div. 1 women continue play on Saturday, Nov. 4 starting with the Castaways FC taking on the Vic West FC at PISE at 6 p.m. Then on Sunday, Nov. 5, Bays United FC takes on Prospect Lake at Oak Bay High. The Div. 3 Bays United FC takes on Nanaimo United at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 at Oak Bay High.
In junior B hockey, the Victoria Cougars start the week over the Malahat before a full six games around town, including five at home. After Sunday afternoon’s tilt with the Kerry Park Islanders, the Cougs return home to host the Comox Valley Glacier Kings at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at Archie Browning.
