The official onset of summer hits June 22 but the festivities are well underway at Greater Victoria tourist draws.
Among the youngest of those hot spots, Malahat SkyWalk marks its fifth summer, adding a new yoga experience at the top of the Spiral Tower, expanded programming from the Raptors and bubble fun with That Bubble Guy.
The popular Summer SkyWalk Music Series returns and rides amp up on the free Victoria shuttle service.
“Since opening, we have continued to build on what we offer year over year, and this summer is no different,” general manager Nathan Bird said. “From new activities and events to the overall award-winning experience, we are giving locals and Vancouver Island visitors plenty of reasons to plan a visit with us this summer.”
A local favourite, the Raptors are back with an interactive educational display at the Tower Plaza. Visitors can get up close with some of B.C.’s awe-inspiring birds of prey and learn from a team of passionate naturalists from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesdays through Sundays, through Aug. 31 and the Labour Day weekend.
Two retro Airstreams host exclusive food carts only available at Malahat SkyWalk – the new Happy Camper cart serving freshly made twisted churros and Softy’s swirling up its famous dairy-free soft-serve desserts.
Yoga, in partnership with Lab Westshore, runs weekends at 8 a.m. through Sept. 7 with limited spots available each Saturday and Sunday.
Luke’s Lane – named for its resident Sasquatch mascot – now offers a fully interactive experience along a gentle 800-metre hike through the arbutus and Douglas-fir forest. Children and adults can help Luke find all his forest friends, hidden deep in the wilderness, with prizes for those who complete the trail and find all the animals.
Getting to the attraction atop Malahat Drive is also easier from Victoria with free shuttles running seven days a week, June 28 through Sept. 1.
Vibes and views are on tap now through Labour Day weekend, featuring a mix of local artists and singer/songwriters from a variety of genres, taking centre stage Saturdays and Sundays from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. This summer’s lineup includes An&Ben, Big Awesome, Woodstick, Peter McMaster, Newberry Street, Dos Cabezas and Julie Corrigan.
