PHOTOS: Japanese culture celebrated at Esquimalt event

The Japanese Cultural Fair returned for its 23rd year

Japanese culture was on full display as the Victoria Nikkei Cultural Society hosted its annual Japanese Cultural Fair.

Saturday’s (Aug. 26) event took place at the Esquimalt Gorge Park Pavilion for the second year, with displays, lectures, and demonstrations set up both indoors and outdoors.

Inside the pavilion, everything from dance and martial arts performances to lectures on Japanese fruit trees were held, while outside featured food trucks, Japanese performance car displays, and traditional tea ceremonies in the park’s Japanese gardens.

This year’s event featured an expanded outdoor space to allow other groups within the region’s Japanese-Canadian community to showcase everything they do.
