Saanich teams featured in both podium games at the AAA senior girls’ provincial basketball competition that wrapped March 2 at the Langley Events Centre.
St. Michaels University School dominated right from the start defeating Little Flower Academy 67-34 and W.L. Seaton 68-32 to kick off the tournament.
The SMUS Blue Jags needed a late free throw to prevail 55-54 over the South Kamloops Titans in the semi-final to earn a place in the gold-medal game.
Scored silver with a narrow 69-63 loss to Brookswood in overtime.

The Reynolds Roadrunners soundly defeated Sa-Hali 69-41 to kick off competition on Feb. 28. The Saanich team then beat M.E.I. 69-58 in the quarterfinal to head into the semifinals where the team fell to eventual gold-medal winners Brookswood 73-51.
The girls finished fourth in the province falling to South Kamloops 55-40 in the bronze medal game Saturday.
In 4A action, two Greater Victoria teams split their first two games before facing each other.
Claremont fell 94-38 to Seaquam – the eventual provincial champions – before beating Charles Best 62-47.
Oak Bay lost to Yale 84-47 before turning the tables to defeat North Peace 78-48.
In the head-to-head battle, Oak Bay edged Claremont 58-52.

Oak Bay finished 10th with a 52-42 loss to Burnaby Central while Claremont finished 12th falling 71-63 to Sir Winston Churchill.
Lambrick Park finished 11th in AA action. The team first fell to Britannia 68-50 then beat Abbotsford Traditional 63-53 before losing a narrow 60-59 game to Southridge.
The team defeated Brentwood College 51-39 to finish provincials.
Senior boys competition rounds out high school basketball provincials, held at Langley Event Centre March 6 to 9.
The Oak Bay Bays team is seeded No. 1 and Spectrum Thunder No. 2 in 4A.
Lambrick Park will compete in AA.
